Bring The Little Mermaid: Diamond Edition Home

The Little Mermaid has also been a hit in my house.  I remember when I was younger it was my mothers favorite Disney movie.  I honestly do not remember how many times I watched it.  Another thing that I love is the combo packs.  For our family it is the best of two worlds as we have both Blu Ray and DVD players so we can always ensure we have a disc no matter where we go and the best picture!!

Ariel is a big hit for my little princesses!  They love the music in the show just as much as they love Ariel herself.  I love the spontaneous dancing that occurs whenever we watch the movie!

Never watched The Little Mermaid??  No need to fret!

Ariel (voiced by Jodi Benson), is a free-spirited mermaid, who is off on the adventure of a lifetime with her best friend, the adorable Flounder (voiced by Jason Marin), and the reggae-singing Caribbean crab Sebastian (voiced by Samuel E. Wright) at her side. But it will take all of her courage and determination to make her dreams come true—and save her father’s beloved kingdom from the sneaky sea witch Ursula (voiced by Pat Carroll).

Bonus Features: All-New Music Video; @ Disney Animation; Disney Intermission; Deleted Character; The Real Little Mermaid: Live Action Reference Model; Part of Her World: Jodi Benson’s Voyage To New Fantasyland; Howard’s Lecture; Classic DVD Bonus Features.

The Return by Melissa Douthit: Book Review #50bookpledge

About the Book:

After the fall from the Maaldan cliff, Chalice is reunited with her friends on a journey that takes them to the coastline of Ielieria.  Little do Vlaad and his Fierain know what is in store for them as, bit by bit, their plans are thwarted by this blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty.

The small band of rebels then travels across the Realm, preparing it for war, while Chalice herself is brewing plans of her own that may just land her in the hot seat.  What will happen when she returns her father to the throne?  What will happen when he finds out what she has done?  And ... what will happen once Dar'Maalda learns of the rebels' location?

In the third and final novel of the trilogy, The Legend of the Raie'Chaelia, you find out.  It is a dramatic finish to an epic story of action, adventure, betrayal, forgiveness and love.

My Review of the Book:

First off I have to say I really do not like when I read a book and then it comes to the end and that is it.  No more... Nothing...  I do not know about you, but if that happens to me I end up going into a reading funk and that's it for a bit.  I believe this is one reason why I am so in love with the amount of books trilogy books coming out.  This gives me an opportunity to hold onto the characters just a little bit longer.  Sure some may call it greedy, but reading is my little time to escape and I personally would not have it any other way!!

The weather is changing and if you are looking for something to keep you busy while your snuggling up by the fire look no further.  I really did enjoy this trilogy and definitely do recommend checking out Melissa and her novels.  She is a great writer and I loved the journey I got to travel in for this book tour.  From book one to book three, I was entertained and honestly was looking forward to all my down time so I could sneak away and get a chance to continue reading the books.

Book Review and a Chance to Get Your Own copy of Ghost of Lost Eagle by Dean Sault #50bookpledge

About the Book:

Mason "Tuck" Tucker meets Sass Thornton when she lassos him and drags him from certain death in a flashflood. She dubs him "dumbass" for entering a box canyon during a rainstorm. This label he will hear many times as she struggles against her unwanted attraction to him.
Sass's father, Phil, owns the cattle ranch that she runs with an iron fist. Her father has been keeping two important secrets from her; one about her mother's murderer, the other about a killer in his bunkhouse who has romantic interests in the attractive young woman.

Phil hires Tuck, over his daughter's strong objections, to run the bunkhouse and control growing racial tension between white cowhands and Mexican vaqueros. The young man surprises Phil with his easy, yet tough and effective, management style. The ranch owner takes Tuck into his confidence, revealing the truth about a deadly gunman terrorizing the bunkhouse. He insists that Tuck deal with the threat without letting Sass know of the danger.

Throughout the book, Tuck is haunted by howls of a lone wolf, but only one other person can hear it. The wolf often accompanies life-like dreams of an old Indian ghost named Lost Eagle. The spirit medicine-man repeatedly warns him about a strange destiny he must soon face. When Tuck reveals the dreams to Sass, she cautions him to avoid the cave where the ghost of Lost Eagle is thought to haunt. Despite her distrust of the Native American phantom, the apparition saves Tuck by waking him when an assassin approaches. Lost Eagle prepares Tuck for his fate, foretelling that the young man will soon have to choose life or death between friends. His choice will result in the death of one.

Read what happens when Lost Eagle's ghost, the lone-wolf spirit-guide and Tuck's new found love, Sass, come together in a life and death struggle. How does the murderer in the bunkhouse seek revenge against Sass and her father? What happens when Phil's secrets are revealed to his daughter? Will Tuck leave the woman he comes to love to save his aunt who raised him as the only mother he's ever known? Find the answers by reading the Ghost of Lost Eagle.

About the Author:

Author Dean Sault lives in Northern California with his wife and her menagerie of pets. Every day for the past thirty-five years, he could not wait to shut down his insurance office, so he could spend time with his family, go fishing, or retreat into his private world of writing fictional places and people. In 2007, severe vertigo took away Sault's beloved avocation of bass fishing and writing for Inside Line magazine. Sault refused to let vertigo stand in the way of his love of writing. He decided to dust off his stories and share his literary creations with the world.  He began by publishing his science fiction space opera, The Last Human War.

After twenty years of writing in the dark, Sault was ready to step out and share his work with the world! He says, "2013 will be the year my readers experience a diversity of genres I've kept hidden from the world. From sci-fi to western romance, some with paranormal elements, this will be an exciting year."

Sault brings his unique writing style to every story he creates. With crisp, fast-paced prose, he employs Hemingway-like simplicity as he weaves complex characters into fascinating worlds. Readers often comment that once begun, they cannot put his books down. "I learned this skill, believe it or not, from writing bass fishing articles and columns for Inside Line magazine during the time when I chased professional fishing and guiding," Sault says. "In fact, many of the stories we are making available to readers today, found their beginnings in dusty motel rooms, late at night, while at distant bass tournaments."

This breakout author shows promise to be one of the great writers of our time. From action-adventure to terror in his thrillers, his masterful handling of fast-paced prose compares with great writers like Tom Clancy and HG Wells. His western-romances share the strong pacing, but they slow at just the right moments to build touching love connections that tug at the readers' heartstrings.

My review of the Book:

I really did enjoy this book!  It is written fabulously and is entertaining from start to finish.  I have to admit the first thing that drew me into this book was the horse on the cover.  I have never owned a horse, nor have I ever not been scared when riding a horse, but their beauty always draws me into it.  That can also be said about this book.  The characters were so much fun and entertaining.  I have read many books that might start off slow, but finish great.  This book caught me right from chapter one to the ending of it.  I really hope that there will be more books in the series, but in the meantime I will definitely checking out his other work!  Check out all his work and more  at his website http://www.authordeansault.com/

Disney Teen Beach Movie Giveaway- Ends Tomorrow

My kids love singing and dancing.  They also adore shows that have singing and dancing within them.  I was excited when I got the chance to review and check this movie out with my kiddos.  The crazy thing was when I showed them what we were going to watch they informed me that they had watched it a few nights before at a sleepover!  I asked if they wanted to watch it again and the answer was a most definitely YES!!  They said it was so funny.  I did not admit it to them, but I was thankful that they had said yes as I was wanting to watch it myself.

If your looking for a new movie to pick up for the family look no further.  If you have young children like myself or even a bit older this is one movie that will entertain everyone.  The singing and dancing is entertaining and along with all of that there is a great story as well.  Teen Beach Movie is now available for purchase and a great quality movie that they whole family will enjoy.  In case you have not heard about the movie yet check out the synopsis below!

"Teen Beach Movie" introduces confident, resilient surfer McKenzie and her carefree boyfriend, Brady, a fan of the retro surf musical movie, "Wet Side Story." On the morning of McKenzie's planned departure for boarding school, she and Brady catch one last epic wave which mysteriously carries them right into "Wet Side Story," circa 1962, where they meet Seacat, Giggles, Rascal and Cheechee, among others. Amidst the spontaneous song and dance, there's trouble in paradise -- it's bikers versus surfers for control of the local hangout, but Mack and Brady unwittingly interfere with the movie's star-crossed plot, one that would pair a surfer (teen matinee idol Tanner) and a biker (Lela, the sister of Butchy, the biker gang's leader). Typical of the teen beach movie genre, a kooky subplot has mad scientists Les Camembert and Dr. Fusion scheming to alter weather patterns and take over the local hangout -- and then the world.

One of my lucky readers will have a chance to win a copy of Teen Beach Movie DVD.  Don't hesitate and enter as this is a quickie giveaway that ends tomorrow!

Good Luck!

Daughter of Jerusalem by Joan Wolf- Book Review

About the Book:

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.—One of Scripture’s most mysterious and often misunderstood women, Mary Magdalene, tells her story in her own words in the latest novel from prolific author Joan Wolf. In her new release, Daughter of Jerusalem, Wolf gives readers a fictionalized account of this complex, yet remarkable woman—and one of Jesus’ most faithful followers. Readers will love this first-person account of all that took Mary from her traumatic early life to eyewitness of the glory of the resurrection.
Mary Magdalene is famous for being a sinful woman.

In Wolf’s account we see those sins as well as her triumph as Jesus’ beloved disciple. Cheated of an early love by her guardian, she is forced into marriage with a rich old man. Captivated by a Roman senator’s son, she turns away from her heritage and is almost permanently lost to the morality of the Jewish law. Then she meets Jesus of Nazareth. Is it true that he is the Messiah she has heard so much about? Can he really change her life? Is she good enough to be his disciple? Can he really be her Savior?
In Daughter of Jerusalem, New York Times best-selling Wolf skimps on no detail as she gives life to this fascinating yet mysterious woman. Readers will love seeing a living, breathing picture of the often misunderstood Mary—a woman who, though damaged, became Jesus’ friend while He walked the earth. Daughter of Jerusalem is told in three parts, each covering a different portion of Mary’s life. Readers will quickly identify with Mary, a flawed woman of deep faith who, in the end, used her wealth and influence to serve Jesus.

About the Author:

Joan Wolf has lived most of her adult life with her husband in Milford, Conn., where she raised two children and an assortment of horses, dogs, and cats. Along the way she also managed to write forty-six published novels, the writing of which profoundly enriched her life. Learn more about her online at www.joanwolf.com.

My Review:

People are attracted to books for many different reasons.  Working in a library I come across hundreds of books in a day.  For myself a cover is always the first part I notice and what attracts me to a book.  This was no different with Daughter of Jerusalem.  The cover is so vibrant and eye appealing!  I love the look of it and was excited when I was asked if I was interested in reviewing it.  My answer was of course YES!!

I have to say I have read books in the past that visually look good, have a great description and once I start reading the book I end up wondering how I ended up being so disappointed.  Personally I think nothing can be more disappointing to a reader.  I am pleased to say this was not the case with Joan Wolf's book!   I have to admit this is the first book I've read of Joans', but I can honestly say now I look forward to checking out her other novels.  It is no surprise why she is on the best seller list!  I was also equally surprised when I mentioned to a friend that I was going to be reviewing Daughter of Jerusalem and she informed me she was a huge fan of her previous books and had been looking at getting the latest one!

I loved this book and recommend it to everyone no matter if your Christian or not.  This book of biblical fiction is entertaining and such a great read.  If your looking at hosting a book club I guarantee this book with create a great discussion between members.

Tasty Tuesday: Blueberry Muffins

I have a ton of recipes in my home, although I have to admit I use the internet so much more.  It is so convenient to just type in a food you would like to cook and voila.  This past weekend I was at home for the day as my eldest daughter had the flu.  So I decided to do some baking and decided I would make some blueberry muffins.  Why blueberry when its not in season you may ask?  I always have frozen fruit in my freezer as we as a family, love to make smoothies so it is a given that I had some frozen.

This was not my first time making blueberry muffins, but I love trying new recipes so I was searching for a recipe I had not made before.  I have to admit when I read " To die for blueberry muffins, I really did not search anymore.  Head on over to check out the blueberry recipe or find some other great hidden treasure!

I really did like this recipe and I made a double batch.  Although, with the second batch I did not add the topping and instead I added 1 tsp of cinnamon into it.  I loved it just as much as, but honestly what was more important was I felt a little better eating one without the sugar the next morning for breakfast.

Blueberry Muffins

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (I used whole wheat)
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
 1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 cup fresh blueberries (I used frozen)
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup butter, cubed  (I used margarine as I rarely cook with butter)
1/3 cup all-purpose flour

  1. Preheat oven to 400 F and grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
  2. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.
  3. To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking.
  4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.
Enjoy!!

Tasty Tuesday: Kid Friendly Corn Fritters

If your looking for some new and exciting ways to introduce vegetables at your table, I do have a suggestion for you!

Recently I came across the cookbook Cook It Together by Annabel Karmel. There are a lot of great recipes in there for adults to make with children and they are great tasting too! The cookbook has great pictures, which I love as I always want to know what the end product "should" look like. As well the directions are done easily for children to follow on their own with little assistance! The one that caught my eye especially is the Corn Fritters! I made these for our home and it is a new fave of mine and so easy to make!

 Corn Fritters

1/4 cup flour
1 tsp baking powder pinch of salt
1 egg
1 tbsp maple syrup
2 tbsp milk
1 1/4 cup corn, drained
2 scallions, chopped
1-2 tbsp sunflower oil

Sift the flour, baking powder and pinch of salt into a large bowl. Next separate the egg white from the egg yolk and place them into different bowls once done. Add maple syrup and milk to the egg yolk and whisk together. Pour this mixture over the flour. Stir everything together to make a batter.

Whisk the egg white until it forms soft peaks. Be careful not to over-whisk or it will go flat. Use a spatula to fold the egg white into the flour mixture, ensuring to stir the side of the bowl and across the middle. Poor the corn and chopped scallions into the batter mixture. Fold them in and be as light as possible.

Heat the oil and drop tablespoons of the batter and cook for 1-2 minutes per side. You want to ensure the underside is golden before you flip to cook the other side!

 Enjoy!
